The left has its week all planned out. There’s Meat Free Mondays, Throwback Thursdays, and of course, Trump-Free Tuesdays.
In a statement put out on Monday, June 26, the editorial team of Salon announced that for one whole day, they would neither publish the POTUS’s picture or his name. The reason why? “We’re sick of him. Everybody is, including the people who voted for him and still support him. That might not be a metaphor either.”
Apparently some people are physically sick because of Trump. So in order to banish the plague of media surrounding Trump, Salon is giving the POTUS the ‘he-who-must-not-be-named’ treatment. Shout out to Voldemort. Salon wants us to think we live in the Harry Potter universe.
But is this a good thing or a bad thing? With so much negative media centered on Trump, most news sources are basically broadcasting their rage at the reality of having a conservative president. And Salon is one of the biggest offenders, with their constant barrage of material aimed against Trump, Ivanka Trump, Spicer, and anyone else who puts that controversial (R) by their name.
In the article, the Salon editorial team said, “there are so many other things to talk about and think about, in politics, culture, or in our daily lives.” It’s true. There’s feminism, racism, gender fluidity, income inequality, climate change and how every single thing the GOP congress does will kill people!
The post went on to say, “We are stuck with this guy for the foreseeable future, which is a difficult truth for many of us to handle ... maybe we can start to deflate the outsized role he pays in our national psychology.” Considering that progressives like Salon’s staff are the ones that have made the personal political and demanded ever more of a role for government and politics in our lives and “national psychology,” maybe conservatives should take this as a win.
But not too much of a win. Salon reassured its readers: “We’re certainly going to cover American politics and the United States government, but we will avoid focusing on the dominant personality at the top of the pyramid.”
A day free from negative, hateful media? Sounds better than Taco Tuesday.
