It pays to be connected, and the ever-growing Hollywood sex abuse scandal prove that the liberal elite on both coasts are well connected.
The New York Times reported Monday that disgraced mogul Harvey Weinstein, accused of harassing and raping over 80 victims, has been trying to hush his victims, including actress Rose McGowan, through the manipulations of his legal team. Weinstein’s legal team is headed by none other than David Boies, the lawyer who represented Al Gore in the case Bush v. Gore in 2000. Ironically, Boies’ law firm, Boies Schiller Flexner L.L.P., has “provided the Times with outside legal counsel in three legal matters over the past 10 years.”
According to the Times, “A contract with one of at least three private investigation firms that Mr. Weinstein employed, Black Cube, listed its “primary objectives” as providing “intelligence which will help the client’s efforts to completely stop the publication of a new negative article in a leading NY Newspaper” and obtaining content from a book that was to include “harmful, negative information on and about the client.” The magazine [The New Yorker] identified the newspaper as The New York Times and the book author as Rose McGowan, who has stepped forward to allege that Mr. Weinstein raped her.” The contract was signed by Boies.
Boies is the same lawyer that overturned California’s proposition 8 in defense of gay marriage in 2014. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal that year, he told the reporter he won his cases because of his “work ethic.” “Mr. Boies attributes part of his courtroom success to his work ethic. ‘It’s a question of how much they want to win,’ he says of his opponents. ‘Do they want to win more than going to the opera?’”
Apparently, Boies wants to win his Weinstein cases so much that he would rather the victims not speak up at all.
