In the world of music, it’s the year of hip-hop, rap and Bernie Sanders -- at least according to the Grammy nominations.
Nominations for the 60th annual Grammy Awards were released on November 28. Among the pop stars and rappers, the Recording Academy nominated Vermont senator and 2016 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. No, Sanders didn’t drop a rap album about socialism, but he did release an audio book of “Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In,” with liberal actor Mark Ruffalo (best known for playing the Hulk).
Variety reported that this is not the first album released by Sanders. In 1987, he released an album called “We Shall Overcome,” where the senator narrated several folk songs performed by other artists. The Guardian described it as “so bad, it’s good.” The outlet also described it as just a “hallucinogenically bad album.”
The album is nominated for Best Spoken Word, in the same category as environmentalist Neil DeGrasse Tyson.
According to Variety, the category for Best Spoken Word Album has always been a political one, with people like Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter, Elizabeth Warren, Al Franken and Bill Clinton receiving nominations. This is the 15th time the Recording Academy has nominated a liberal political figure in the past 18 years. In the same amount of time, the Grammys have not nominated any conservative political figures.
The Hollywood Reporter offered a summary of the book’s content, according to the publisher, Thomas Dunne Books:
‘“He will write about his early life as well as the campaign and the issues he cares so passionately about. Moreover, the final section, presently called 'Where Do We Go From Here?' will outline a program of progressive activism for the coming years, a cause he is passionately committed to,’ said Dunne.”
So a Bernie Sanders rap album would probably be categorically more interesting that merely listening to an old man rant about socialism.
In this weird world of liberal media, who picks these nominees? Apparently people who endorse progressive activism and socialism, alleged rapists and those who bow to climate change.
