Another Hollywood celebrity just joined the dark side.
In a shocking turn of events, actress and Israeli citizen Natalie Portman declined participating in an award ceremony in Israel because of the “recent events in Israel.” According to the awards foundations, Genesis Prize Foundation, Portman’s representative stated that “recent events in Israel have been extremely distressing to her and she does not feel comfortable participating in any public events in Israel. She cannot in good conscience move forward with the ceremony.”
Politician Oren Hazan slammed the actress after the news broke, saying that she “had no real connection to the State” of Israel and Genesis Prize Foundation was at fault for awarding her a prize.
He said that the actress “uses her birthplace to advance her career” without putting any effort into being a citizen of Israel. He then called on the Interior Minister Aryeh Deri to rescind her citizenship.
Miri Regev, the Israeli minister of culture and sport, said, “I was saddened to hear that Natalie Portman has fallen as a ripe fruit in the hands of BDS supporters.”
Genesis Prize Foundation cancelled the ceremony, saying that they were “concerned” that Portman’s decision would “cause our philanthropic initiative to be politicized.”
