The Root, an online news site that claims to provide commentary from a “variety” of African-American perspectives, is apparently none too pleased about the perspective of one particular African-American, who is about to get his own TV show.
Charles Barkley will host an upcoming show on TNT called…wait for it…The Race Card. Where he will travel the country, talking to people about racial issues, and “challenging everyone’s status quo.”
Why would The Root have issue with such a show?
Because they’re afraid that Barkley is going to tell people that “All Lives Matter:”
“TNT knows exactly what it’s doing. Let’s give an unscripted talk series about race relations to the one black guy who knows nothing about it and is always on the wrong side when it comes to black race relations.
Yup, I’m talking about Charles Barkley.
In the six-episode series The Race Card, Barkley will travel around the world to “bust up the echo chamber mentality that so often has people retreating to corners of the like-minded, where views are reinforced and ideas are distorted into angry, unexamined groupthink conclusions.”
That sounds like a lot of mumbo jumbo. When they could have easily said, “Charles Barkley will travel around the globe to explain why all lives matter.”
This is a bad thing? Apparently:
“About the show, Barkley said: “We as Americans never discuss the issue of race in this country and how it impacts everything in our lives until something bad happens. I see this project as a way to talk about race, class and cultural differences and challenge everyone’s status quo.”
Oh, Mr. Barkley, just because you’re not discussing it, doesn’t mean other people aren’t.
The show’s synopsis goes on to state that Barkley “will seek out the sharpest and most varied viewpoints from today’s cultural leaders and tastemakers. He will then challenge and probe those ideas, even trying them out on himself.”
Oh, this is going to be hilarious. TNT is trolling race relations with Charles Barkley.”
No doubt what has the activists at The Root all bamboozled, at least in part, are Barkley’s words on The Dan Le Batard Show. Barkley defended the police, correctly observed that the black community needs cops, and that we would be living in the “Wild West” without them.
Also hilarious is The Root’s claim that Charles Barkley knows nothing about race relations. More accurately stated, Charles Barkley holds a different view of race relations. And as such, gives lie to The Root’s claim to offer or celebrate a “variety” of black views. When in reality, it’s pretty clear they only respect the views of radicals and activists.
