One would think that Hip Hop/rap artists would be at the forefront of free expression these days. After all, even in a PC world, many of these guys get a pass to say whatever they want, and people respect it. One rapper named YG, however, made a mockery of free expression and “fighting the power” by bowing to the lefty status quo this past weekend. The rapper publicly berated a young fan for refusing to sing the lyrics to his song “FDT,” AKA "Fuck Donald Trump."
The rapper behind such cultural masterpieces like “FDT,” featuring the recently deceased artist Nipsey Hustle; “Down Bitch” or “PUSSY MONEY FAME” didn’t take too kindly to one fan having his own opinions on the Trump matter. Granted, we understand that most showbiz folks can’t stand conservative opinions, but YG went that extra mile by inviting the fan on stage, finding out he wouldn’t dump on the president, and then having the crowd jeer as he was ejected from the show.
Apparently YG had spotted the young man at the front of his San Antonio, Texas music festival set, and called him up to perform the song on stage because he was visibly reluctant to sing the song’s chorus line of “Fuck Donald Trump.”
As the excited fan got up for his two minutes of fame, the rapper started bullying him in front of the booing crowd, saying, “I don’t know if I want to shake your hand yet.” You see, YG needed to to know if the dude had the right opinion on President Donald Trump, or a public shaming would be in order.
He continued, “Listen I spotted you out in the crowd. I asked you if you fuck with Donald Trump. You said you don’t know. So since you don’t know, I need you to make up your mind tonight.”
The spectacle became rather gratuitous when the annoyed rapper mentioned that the young man’s family would be seeing this footage later, and that he better make the right choice in front of them and in front of the world. He stated, “I know your mama, your daddy, your grandmama, your grandfather is watching.” Gross.
“I want you to state your name and yell ‘Fuck Donald Trump,’” YG stated, as the crowd jeered. It was a surreal scenario straight out of some Orwellian universe, with a heretic being publicly condemned for his thought crime.
Luckily, however, the fan didn’t seem starstruck enough to sell out. He appeared to shake his head, which prompted anger from the hip hop mogul. Perplexed, he asked, “No you won’t?” and then motioned his security to “Get his ass outta here!”
“Get him off the stage! Get the fuck up outta here!” he raved. Is it any wonder why hip hop artists like Kanye West now preach about leaving mainstream hip hop culture behind?
