On Thursday, the National Basketball Association announced it’s creating a new social justice award named after Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Apparently following “Crisis Management for Dummies” logic, the league’s latest social justice obsession comes at a time of plummeting popularity.
Last month, a poll by Morning Result revealed that fans are rejecting the NBA’s wokeness. In fact, the league has an unbelievable -5 percent favorability rating with Republicans and 43 percent among Democrats. Television ratings for the league have also crashed. At any rate, the NBA is unaware that it is unaware of its ongoing public relations nightmare.
Jabari Young of CNBC reported the downward spiraling NBASJW will now select a player for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion Award each season. It will be a player “who demonstrates a commitment to bringing awareness to social justice and inequalities.” Each team will nominate a player for the award and a committee of NBA legends, league executives and social justice leaders will select the winner. Award finalists will donate a combined $200,000 to social justice organizations.
The leftist Abdul-Jabbar, now 74, said, “I’m honored and grateful to be associated with this award that will recognize the dedicated and selfless people fighting to promote social justice for all marginalized people. To me, it’s another giant step in the right direction for the country and all people who value equality.” (Disclaimer: Nominees profiting from shoes manufactured by all marginalized slaves in China won’t be required to advocate for equality in Asia.)
Clueless NBA commissioner Adam Silver, who doesn’t yet smell the smoke of the league burning to the ground, said, “In addition to being one of our greatest players, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has devoted much of his life to advocating for equality and social justice. With this new award, we are proud to recognize and celebrate NBA players who are using their influence to make an impact on their communities and our broader society.”
That impact included calling off playoff games to protest the police shooting of criminals like Jacob Blake in 2020. LeBron James and Abdul-Jabbar are also promoting a big lie that police officers are out of control and indiscriminately killing African Americans.
Abdul-Jabbar said: “We’ve got to take our time and understand that we need to take all these little steps to get to where we need to go — where there’s justice. We don’t want to make policemen’s jobs impossible. But we don’t want police just arbitrarily killing people. It’s going to take some effort, but we can get there.”
Following the death of George Floyd last year, the NBA saturated itself in social justice imagery. All league games were played in a Disney World bubble in Florida, where the playing courts displayed in huge lettering the words “Black Lives Matter.” Players adorned themselves in social justice slogans, too.
Silver took out the BLM court messages this season, but he can’t take the BLM out of the social justice-obsessed league.
