Ex-ESPN reporter Darren Rovell on Monday slammed the supporters of conservative Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker as “vile,” and he labeled the former Heisman Trophy winner possibly the worst political candidate ever. Rovell and Walker’s opponent, Senator Raphael Warnock (D), have skeletons in their own respective closets, but those were ignored.
The current sports business reporter for Action Network, Rovell formerly worked for ESPN and CNBC.
In the first of two Tweets Monday, he wrote:
That drew a response from someone stating that Walker, the former Georgia Bulldog running back great, has a good shot of defeating Georgia incumbent Raphael Warnock. Rovell responded:
Walker is running for the U.S. Senate as a pro-life conservative. The Daily Beast reporter Roger Sollenberger wrote Tuesday he verified a claim that Walker paid for a woman to have an abortion. Today, that reporter says Walker also had a child with the same woman.
Walker called this a lie and said he’s planning to sue.
If the claim is true, the alleged abortion was not an honorable act on Walker’s part. But 13 years later, he’s on the right side of the sanctity of life issue. Warnock, on the other hand, would have unlimited tax-payer funded abortions.
Rovell has issues of his own. In 2011, he wrote a column for CNBC that an escort service in New York was losing 30 percent of its revenue during the NBA lockout. This was a fabrication passed on to him by a high school student with a fake name and email account.
Warnock served as a church pastor for several years and has two arrests on his record. While he was a pastor at Douglas Memorial Community Church in Baltimore, Warnock was arrested for obstructing a police investigation into suspected child abuse at a summer camp run by the church. The charges were later dropped.
In 2014, he was arrested while protesting Georgia’s decision not to expand Medicaid. In 2020, his ex-wife accused him of running over her foot with his care after an argument. These troubling facts escaped Rovell’s twitter account, and Warnock’s supporters were not dubbed 'vile.'
As for Warnock’s record, there are a lot of major concerns for Georgia voters. Warnock is well to the left of the state electorate on numerous issues. The website On The Issues cites several problematic positions.
