Chelsea Handler has devoted many of her shows to getting out the vote for Hillary Clinton and on Thursday’s episode “So Fiercely Proud of My Mom,” Handler interviewed former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton on her Netflix show, Chelsea.
Chelsea Handler slobbered all over Chelsea Clinton, asking her hard-hitting questions like, "When you sit with those two people [Bill and Hillary Clinton], who are so intelligent, do you ever look at them and think, 'Oh my God, like, these are my parents?'" Clinton was clear in her pride for her parents, especially Hillary, and tried to humanize them by talking about her childhood. Clinton recalled the family’s life in Arkansas where she says Hillary was criticized for being “too serious” and not “feminine” enough.
Chelsea Handler tried to paint Chelsea Clinton as a victim, asking her, “How does it make you feel when you hear her opponent say things like "Crooked Hillary" and the things that he says about your mom, what does that do to you?” Clinton said of her mom, “I don’t ever remember her not being attacked,” but she considers that a gift because it made her stronger and push harder to achieve her own goals. Unlike her mother, Chelsea Clinton doesn’t consider herself a victim when the going gets a bit rough.
In handling criticism and labels like “Crooked Hillary,” Clinton says she remembers advice given to her by Hillary: “It is important to take serious criticism from serious people seriously and unserious criticism from unserious people unseriously.” Sounds like typical Hillary double-speak to me. Then Clinton said, “Her opponent falls quite firmly in the second camp.”
Clinton spoke in the usual liberal way of criticizing Trump for “trying to legitimize hate speech.” And, of course, Handler stated unequivocally that Hillary will win. Handler told Chelsea Clinton it was her responsibility to run for president one day since both her parents will have had the job. Heaven help us all.
But after treating Chelsea Clinton with kid gloves, Chelsea Handler went so far as to aggressively correct Elise, a young girl in her semi-regular segment with elementary school aged children called “Kid’s Corner.” Asking the kids about third party candidates, Elise said it was ok to vote for a third party candidate if you don’t like the others but Handler quickly jumped on the girl, citing Al Gore’s loss in 2000 due to a third party candidate (Ralph Nader).
Later in the show Chelsea Handler and two sidekicks went to a shooting range and went through anti-riot training from a 30-plus year LAPD veteran. Handler thought it was a good idea to be prepared – if Trump wins the election.
Handler acknowledged she has lost some of her audience due to the fact that she so ardently supports Hillary Clinton. She said she wants to reconcile with them after the election. Yeah. Good luck with that from Canada.
