It's April 25, 2018, and the bitter feelings about the November 2016 election of President Trump continue to carry over into primetime television shows. The episode of Fox’s Empire, titled “False Face,” included a reference to a vote for Hillary Clinton from one of the show’s regular characters. How timely.
Empire Records has been spared from a hostile takeover by Eddie (Forrest Whitaker) and now Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) is in the process of getting rid of him from the business operations. Eddie is still trying to get the help of others in the company to overrule Lucious’ objections over Eddie taking control and goes to meet with someone with whom he has previously garnered support.
During an encounter with Shyne Johnson (played by rapper Xzibit), a production manager, the conversation includes a declaration from Shyne that he doesn’t trust Eddie enough to support him. Then he compares his support of Lucious to his vote for Hillary Clinton. He says he voted for her because she is “the devil I know.” The scene includes Lucious reminding that Eddie and Hillary have a lot in common – they both lost. LOL!
Shyne: You didn't think twice about chucking your man here. Ain't no telling how fast you'd get rid of my ass. Me and L ain't white on rice. But like my Hillary vote, I'm just siding with the devil I know.
Eddie: You know she lost, right?
Lucious: Well, in that case, Eddie, you and Hillary got a whole lot in common.
Eddie: Knowing that the lesser man thinks he won? Maybe so. That wasn't about loyalty, you know? That was self-interest.
It’s not often that a character calls Hillary the devil but then Eddie has to take one last shot by referring to President Trump as the “lesser man” that did win. Oh, brother.
Aside from bringing up an event that happened a year and a half ago, the scene looks even more antiquated coming just hours after two big rappers spoke out against following lockstep liberalism. Kanye West defied the liberal Twitter mob today, tweeting, "You don't have to agree with trump [sic] but the mob can't make me not love him" and Chance the Rapper joined the rebellion with the heretical tweet, “Black people don’t have to be democrats [sic].”
Wouldn't it be nice if we could say today was the day the decline of the liberal empire in the entertainment industry began?
