As it turns out, Jenner isn’t all the left hoped for.
After months of celebrating Bruce Jenner’s transition to Caitlyn Jenner earlier this year, the liberal media are turning on their former “hero” for not being “transgender” enough. Apparently, Jenner doesn’t say all the “right things” that a true liberal icon should – and so now, the left is eating one of its own.
It all started when Jenner gave this statement to TIME magazine after receiving one of their “Person of the Year” awards:
“I think it's much easier for a trans woman or a trans man who authentically kind of looks and plays the role. So what I call my presentation. I try to take that seriously. I think it puts people at ease. If you're out there and, to be honest with you, if you look like a man in a dress, it makes people uncomfortable. So the first thing I can do is try to present myself well. I want to dress well. I want to look good.” [emphasis added]
Cosmopolitan magazine writer Alex Rees wrote an entire article slamming Jenner for this remark, calling it “transphobic stereotyping.” Apparently, such a bigoted observation – like a man looking kinda ridiculous wearing a dress – shouldn’t be coming from the mouth of a transgender spokes(wo)man.
“Newsflash: there's nothing wrong with a man wearing a dress, whether it's as part of a transition or just because he would like some fresh air on his balls once in a while,” Rees blasted. (Excuse us, for that mental image.)
But he wasn’t done complaining. Rees continued to bash Jenner’s “often conservative and disconcertingly gender-normative worldview,” such as when Jenner said he wanted to “dress well” and “look good” as a woman.
“[A] trans person, or any person for that matter, should not need to worry about ‘putting others at ease’ in how they ‘present’ themselves to the world either,” Rees slammed. “Fuck that normative nonsense.” [emphasis added]
Even while Jenner admitted that he may be “ignorant” in regards to certain LGBT issues, Rees also bashed this admission as unacceptable:
“[W]hile this isn't necessarily wrong as a critique of today's culture, it's certainly not the right language for a trans spokesperson to be using either, lest of all as a guideline for her peers to adhere to. There's a lot of ignorance at best, and prejudice at worst, to unpack here.” [emphasis added]
After a lot of huffing and puffing about what Jenner “should” say and “shouldn’t” say, Rees ended his rant by issuing this warning to Jenner:
“[I]f you're going to use that platform to espouse language and opinions which end up marginalizing the community you're supposed to be showcasing, then it's a step back at the same time as a step forward.”
Looks like the media need another transgender puppet to prop up who will say all the right things, because, well, Jenner just isn’t cutting it.
