50 Shades of Gray star Dakota Johnson is booked to do a sequel, 50 Shades Darker despite the toll she said the first movie took on her love life.
Johnson said the role of Anastasia Steele in the erotic film about a BDSM relationship made men scared of her since they thought she might actually be interested in that type of relationship in her personal life.
“Are people weird around you because of that role?” Ellen Degeneres asked Johnson on her show in September.
“Sometimes,” the star admitted, adding that no one in her family wanted to see the movie, and she thought it would be weird if they did.
50 Shades of Gray tells the story of a 21-year-old college senior who becomes involved in an unhealthy sadomasochistic relationship with 27-year-old businessman Christian Gray.
A new sequel, 50 Shades Darker, released its trailer last year and started filming Tuesday. It is due to be released Feb., 2017.
Johnson broke up with her boyfriend, Welsh indie rock band singer Matt Hitt last year, and said that the single life can be a bit lonely sometimes, although her job is a good distraction.
“Do you notice a difference in guys, like, approaching you or not approaching you?” Degeneres asked.
“You mean like when they run away from me?” Johnson laughed. “I guess they’re scared of me … They either love me or they’re running for the hills. I guess they’re running for the hills.”
“I don’t know why, you tell me,” she told the Mirror. “I think I’m a fairly approachable person.”
The public was fascinated with last year’s risque Valentine’s Day release. The new 50 Shades installment as its name, 50 Shades Darker betrays looks like it will not do much to help Johnson shed the damaging persona.
