In the immortal words of Sergeant Hulka from Stripes, “Lighten up, Francis.” According to CNN.com, there are people who think this Tweet from Ellen DeGeneres is racist:
“Some on Twitter found the image less than golden,” according to the story, “with cries of racism and insensitivity in joking about a white woman riding the back of a black man.”
One wrote “@TheEllenShow This is so gross. Fire whoever did this.” Another: “@TheEllenShow so the first thing that pops in your head when looking at this pic is ‘oh let me jump onto his back like he's a common mule’?”
Of course, plenty of people defended Ellen because Usain Bolt is fast and, ya know, they’re sane: "If Usain was white, y'all wouldn't care. We all know Ellen isn't racist & didn't mean any harm by that. Stop it."
Someone else tweeted, “I am absolutely baffled by the people currently calling Ellen DeGeneres racist because she, more or less, called an Olympic sprinter fast.”
It’s not all that baffling when you consider that the Social Justice Outrage Generator encourages people to embrace their inner humorless scolds.
Sergeant Hulka said it best.
