Susan Sarandon is a big-time Bernie fan. But since Donald Trump’s win, Hillary Clinton supporters have harassed the actress so much that she's had to change her phone number. So much for liberal tolerance.
On April 12, Sarandon joined the ladies of The View to discuss her role as Hollywood legend Bette Davis in FX’s Feud. But, inevitably, the election came up too.
“This last election has made everybody crazy, but you supported Bernie Sanders,” Joy Behar addressed Sarandon. After the audience erupted in applause, the co-host smiled and exclaimed: “We love Bernie here.”
(And by “we,” Behar particularly means “me.” In 2015, she announced that she’s even “aroused” by the “hot” Bernie Sanders whom she considers “eye candy.”)
“Then you voted for Jill Stein in the general election,” Behar continued. “So, you know, and you took a lot of heat for that—”
“I had to change my phone number,” Sarandon interjected.
“Really? You really did?” Behar asked incredulously.
“Oh!” Sarandon then imitated the “Hillary people” criticizing her: “Are you happy now?!”
“Which actually I would have ridden out,” the actress explained of them figuring out her phone number. “But my sons explained to me that once they have your number, they can hack into everything.”
During the election season, Sarandon was critical of Hillary Clinton and “out of touch” Democrats. In an interview with MSNBC host Chris Hayes, the actress prophesized: “I think if you’re not in touch with the status quo, you’re going to lose.”
