Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC) caught the Justice Department’s civil rights chief claiming to be totally ignorant of one of the biggest free speech cases in U.S. history.
Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Kristen Clarke testified at a Dec. 5 Congressional hearing titled, “Oversight of the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division.” In response to questioning from Rep. Bishop, Clarke claimed she was “not familiar with” the landmark Missouri v. Biden case, which will be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court. The lawsuit exposes the Censorship Industrial Complex and cites exclusive MRC Free Speech America research using our exclusive CensorTrack.org database. Yet the DOJ’s “Civil Rights” head claimed to know nothing about the case.
Bishop brought up the Missouri v. Biden case, which is pending before the U.S. Supreme Court, in an effort to stop government-Big Tech censorship collusion. He quoted a district court stating, “‘If the allegations made by the plaintiffs are true, the present case arguably involves the most massive attack on free speech in United States history.’” The court also said the plaintiffs were “reasonably likely to succeed on the merit to trial.” Since this constitutes only civil litigation, Bishop asked if there were any criminal “investigation or prosecution of the persons responsible for that activity in the FBI, CISA, and at the White House” and any “co-conspirators” in Clarke’s Civil Rights division.
Clarke gave a stumbling response claiming she was “not, uh, familiar with this litigation, but happy to bring your question back.” Bishop asked her to confirm the stunning assertion that she was “not familiar with” the Missouri v. Biden case. “Unfortunately, I—I’m not, congressman,” Clarke answered.
“Assuming that you’re not aware of that,” Bishop said, “what reason would there be that the Civil Rights division of the Justice Department[’s] leader is unaware of what a United States District Court has described as ‘the most massive attack on free speech in the [sic] United States history’?” Clarke began to stutter. “If—if—if you could share more of the facts, that could be helpful, Congressman,” she said. Still seeming astonished, Bishop asked again, “You just don’t know?” The Civil Rights official replied, “That’s correct, I’m—unfortunately this does not appear to be a case that I’m familiar with.”
