After a week of leaked Google emails and videos implying that Google may have tried to influence the 2016 election, it’s time for some answers.
Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told head of Family Research Council Tony Perkins on his Washington Watch radio show that it was time for Google to “come into a hearing.” The congressman expressed concerns about Google based on the emails from top Google execs complaining about the results of the 2016 election. He said, “If they’re using their own personal beliefs when it comes to philosophy to control some of that -- that’s disturbing, and I think that’s a reason why they should have to come before committee.”
Google refused to send its executive leaders to testify before a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on September 5,even though Twitter and Facebook sent their chief officers.
McCarthy told Perkins, “The American public has a right to know. We need transparency in this. These are questions that need to be answered and they should not be afraid to come and answer them.”
On FNC’s America’s Newsroom, McCarthy told anchor Bill Hemmer that “an invite was on its way” to Google for a hearing. He also said, “Facebook and Twitter came in and we found time and again what has social media been doing? They’ve been going after conservatives. But think about Google. Their whole motto was ‘don’t do evil.’ Well if you don’t do evil, it’s not my words, it’s their own executive said they had a silent donation where they tried to help people to help Hillary win the election.”
