Immediately following a segment where John Stewart criticized “Grubergate” as “pretty slimy” the liberal talk show host went on to call out a point of hypocrisy with Dem. House minority leader Nancy Pelosi.
When Pelosi denied pregnant, double amputee Veteran Rep. Tammy Duckworth the right to vote from home this past midterm election, she said allowing that would set “an unwanted precedent.” However, Stewart wasn’t buying it.
“You seemed okay setting a new precedent when you became the first female house speaker or when you filed the Supreme Court amicus brief on behalf of a pregnant woman whose employer refused to modify work conditions so she could continue working. So why not in this case?”
Stewart went on to play news segments which suggested Pelosi’s own political interests would be served by denying Duckworth to vote. Stewart then slams Pelosi, saying:
“And that’s how the precedent was set. That a woman leader, can be every bit as politically craven as her male counterparts. Let me say this: You go girl. Seriously, you should go. ”
