Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show has established itself as the prime place for actors in Tinsel Town to rail against President Trump in any way they see fit. The latest to partake in the mockery was British actor Brian Cox on Monday’s program.
The topic of discussion centered around Cox’s HBO show Succession, which depicts the family of a media mogul loosely modeled after News Corporation CEO Rupert Murdoch. Unable to get through a segment without using the lifeline of trashing President Trump, Colbert stirred the pot: “Now, I understand that the very first read through of the script in 2016 happened on an interesting date…When was the first read through?”
Hook, line and sinker, Cox took the bait to scrutinize President Trump’s presidential victory, despite not being a full-time resident of the United States:
It was election night. This election night. Yeah I sort of blotted it from my memory. It was a very bizarre -- as I say the show is ludicrous and it seemed to me that that night we entered a new age of ludicrousness…The new timeline. And I think -- I thought well this is very apt, this is what our show is about, and it seems to be perfectly apt. I wasn't too happy about the election. Was anybody?
It is safe to say the millions of American citizens who voted for President Trump were satisfied with the results of the election. Colbert then took the cheap shot of suggesting the election outcome was a surprise to the now President himself; “I don't think he was. I think he was shocked.” Cox concurred; “I don't think there was anyone more surprised…Oh I won, oh dear I didn't expect that."
To close out the conversation, Colbert reminded the audience of Cox’s dual citizenship, which will allow him to vote in the 2020 presidential election: “So you get to vote in our next election. Anybody -- you like anybody? Anybody?” As though it was planned, Cox had his answer ready to go: “Yeah, I like Elizabeth Warren.”
Another liberal actor commiserates with Colbert on how much they don't like Trump, late night television is getting pretty formulaic and a lot less humorous.

COX: I do.
COLBERT: So you get to vote in our next election. Anybody -- you like anybody? Anybody?

COLBERT: I could see her. You want somebody with a plan. You want someone with a plan.
