Temp host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, Sarah Silverman claimed on Wednesday that conservatives use “woke” as an “umbrella term” because it is a simpler way of saying “they're pieces of shit.” Ironically, Silverman used the word as her own umbrella term for “basic kindness”
Silverman was responding to Newsmax’s James Rosen’s question to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, “Is President Biden woke?,” when she expressed dismay that “This guy really thinks, "Is Joe Biden woke?” was like a hard-hitting question.”
After a quick jab at Biden’s age, Silverman got back to her main point, “I don’t know, I think we're just communicating wrong because, like, what I know "woke" to mean is, like, learning new things about people or the world, and then acting accordingly like, basic kindness. Maybe a gesture of care to people who are more vulnerable than you.”
The day after saying the Church of England trying to change God’s pronouns doesn’t matter because God’s not real, Silverman continued, “You know what, you wouldn't like it, it's Jesus stuff.”
As for conservatives, Silverman further claimed:
They're like, ‘yeah, but I don't like when they push it on me.’ Nobody's pushing shit on you. You're acting like a beta cuck. Like, woke for the right is really just an umbrella term so they don't have to say specifically that they're pieces of shit. It feels cooler to say, ‘I'm not woke,’ than the truth, which is, ‘I'm terrified of what I don't understand and I only know how to process that as anger because I can't look inward.’”
Wokeness, according to the Cambridge Dictionary, means “a state of being aware, especially of social problems such as racism and inequality,” but just because the left calls something a social problem, doesn’t mean it is. Wokeness is notoriously immune to facts and logic as it places a great importance on subjective feelings while projecting impure motives onto others, which is exactly what Silverman did.
