The liberal news media suffered a cataclysmic meltdown on June 27 over Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement, with the resulting damage likely visible from space. Two weeks later, following President Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, viewers were treated to a second round of hysterics.
Hardball host Chris Matthews appeared on MSNBC Live during the 2 p.m. Eastern hour shortly after the story broke, where he hastily called on Democrats to block any potential candidate the President selected: “I don’t think the Democrats should allow even meetings to occur with Trump’s nominee.” He later declared that the time for vengeance was at hand.
That evening, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow warned her viewers of the dire implications that Kennedy’s resignation had for the left. “I mean, Justice Kennedy was the deciding vote, seriously, on the issue of executing children, which presumably Trump Republicans will now want to try to bring back,” she spat. With a grim smile, she added, “And now, Anthony Kennedy won’t be in their way.”
Over at CNN, senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin appeared on Erin Burnett Outfront to pronounce dead one of the left’s sacred calves: “They are going to overturn Roe v. Wade… of course it’s going to be overturned, that’s the whole point.”
Former Democratic South Carolina State Senator Bakari Sellers made the same point on CNN Tonight, albeit more concisely. “We’re actually screwed for generations,” he lamented, before proceeding to list the numerous people with whom he was “pissed off.”
Below is a video montage documenting some of the most melodramatic (and entertaining) reactions to Kennedy’s resignation and Kavanaugh’s subsequent nomination. Please ensure that you are properly hydrated before watching; there’s a lot of salt in this one.
