Appearing as a guest on Tuesday's The Nightly Show on Comedy Central, CNN political analyst and Daily Beast Editor-in-Chief Jon Avlon asserted that, if Hillary Clinton runs for President as a "bad-ass policy wonk," she will "contrast well" with the "hot air" on the GOP side where people are "trying to bigot their way to the nomination."
At about 11:51 p.m., host Larry Wilmore brought up the election and wondered why Clinton is having trouble being accepted by voters:
So we talked earlier about authenticity in the presidential race. I think voters seem to be going for, "We want authenticity and relatability," and I think Hillary is having a problem with both. What do you think is up with that, Jon?
Avlon began:
Well, you know, being First Lady is not the most relatable position, right? I mean, the problem is, kind of, the perception that she's all steely ambition, you know, that there's a Nixon thing going on. The thing is, when she tries to overreach, you're not going to nay-nay your way to the presidency.
As he made a recommendation for how Clinton should campaign, the liberal CNN analyst took a shot at Republicans:
She should stop trying to be so cool. Be a former Secretary of State, a bad-ass policy wonk who wants to be President, and you'll contrast well with all the hot air on the other side of the aisle, the people that are just trying to bigot their way to the nomination.
An amused Wilmore laughed and repeated Avlon's line: "Bigot their way."
