Wednesday's Fox and Friends gave attention to the kind of story about defensive gun use that is rarely noticed by the dominant media as the Fox News show recalled a woman in South Carolina who shot and killed an escaped convict after he broke into her home.
At 7:39 a.m. Eastern, fill-in news reader Carley Shimkus recounted: "A sheriff praising a South Carolina woman after she defended herself against an escaped inmate who broke into her home. The woman firing a single shot, killing the suspect."
Then came a clip of PIckens County Sheriff Rick Clark: "This was a big guy. If she hadn't had a weapon, there's no telling what would have happened."
In a second clip, Sheriff Clark added: "She saved her life and stopped the bad guy."
Shimkus then informed viewers: "He and another inmate assaulted guards at the Pickens County Prison before escaping. The other inmate is back in custody."
In the online version of the story at FoxNews.com, the sheriff noted the importance of women learning to use a gun and getting a concealed carry permit.
