Since Thursday night, several shows on Fox News Channel have highlighted the latest example of an illegal immigrant who has murdered a police officer while the other networks have ignored the story.
The only time the killing of Washington state police officer Ryan Thompson and the wounding of his partner, Benito Chavez, was reported by any other network was Wednesday morning when CNN's Early Start buried it in a 25-second brief at 4:15 a.m. Eastern, but that was before the involvement of an illegal immigrant had been revealed by ICE, and CNN has so far not updated viewers on the matter.
On FNC, Fox and Friends also gave attention to the story on Wednesday, and has given updates since the identity of the perpetrator was announced late Thursday.
On The Ingraham Angle, host Laura Ingraham brought up the story during a segment with former ICE acting director John Torres. On Friday morning, Fox and Friends First, Fox and Friends, and America's Newsroom all gave attention to the story, with Fox and Friends leading with it at 6:00 a.m.
Correspondent Griff Jenkins informed viewers that, according to ICE, Mexican national Juan Manuel Flores del Toro had overstayed work visas by several years, and, fired on police after he was stopped for driving erratically. Flores del Toto was also killed in the shootout.
Jenkins also notably informed vewers that, because the Department of Homeland Security is running out of detention space in light of a recent spike in illegal border crossings, the department is being forced to release some into border communities, thus illustrating that there is indeed a crisis on the border as the number of illegals crossing each month is currently the greatest that it has been in over a decade.
