Thursday on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, a panel discussed the 2016 presidential election, taking shots at both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton in the process.
Actor and comedian Michael Rapaport slammed Donald Trump, suggesting he has a “ strong, old school, slave owner mentality.” He added: “[H]e told the Latinos, you're this, you’re that, you’re this and I’m gonna win your – and you’re gonna vote for me! That's slave owner 101, and people are like, keep going! Because the middle of the country is like, we feel the same way.”
The panel also spent time hitting Hillary Clinton for her lack of authenticity. Comedian and Nightly Show contributor Mike Yard compared the former secretary of state to a rather unpleasant school principal:
My analogy is that Hillary comes off like the principal, you know what I mean? And like, so you see the principal, you know, she cares about you but you're kind of nervous when she comes around. You see the principal in the hallway, you’re like, oh s***, Principal Clinton, let's get the f*** out of here.
Panelist and comedian Ophira Eisenberg shared Yard’s feelings on Hillary Clinton, saying the former New York senator is a little bit like a weird aunt: “She seems like, kind of stern like the aunt that comes over that's weird at your dinner, you know, that has like some weird chocolate in her bag and she’s like, you will like me if you eat this!”
All the comedians contrasted Clinton’s stuffiness with their view of Bernie Sanders as the cool, hip Democratic candidate. Compared to Clinton as the principal, Yard suggested Sanders is like the teacher students would say “what up” to in the hallway.

August 13, 2015LARRY WILMORE: Do you think young people really care about Hillary Clinton? Like to me, it feels like – I don't even know, the fact that she was the first lady and secretary of state, I don't even know how much that means anymore.
OPHIRA EISENBERG: No, I feel like she would have to get them to like, vote for her by swiping right or something like that. You know, like they – I feel like she's disconnected to them.
WILMORE: Why is she disconnected?
EISENBERG: Because she's not authentic. She seems like, kind of stern like the aunt that comes over that's weird at your dinner, you know, that has like some weird chocolate in her bag and she’s like, you will like me if you eat this! And I was like, ah! Yeah, and then you meet Bernie Sanders and you're like, hey, this guy's got a VW Bug and he's doing pottery –
WILMORE: Let’s promise them drugs and free love, it’s back to the ‘60s.
MIKE YARD: My analogy is that Hillary comes off like the principal, you know what I mean? You know what I mean?
WILMORE: And then you’re like, Mr. Sanders, what do you have for homework tonight? And he said, you know what, free tuition for everybody!
YARD: She comes off like a politician. And I think young folks don't like politicians. That’s why they don’t vote every year, they vote for president. You know what I mean. I think young folks want you to be authentic and Bernie comes off as authentic.
WILMORE: Young people don't like politicians, they may get what they want this year.
YARD: I hope it's not Trump, though.
MICHAEL RAPAPORT: That’s real. The Donald Trump thing.
YARD: You think that's real?
RAPAPORT: I mean, look how far he's gotten. Knowing what it – I mean, yo, my man's got a strong, old-school, slave owner mentality, and he's not holding back!
YARD: You’re not lying. He's not lying.
RAPAPORT: Yo, he told the Latinos, you're this, you’re that, you’re this and I’m gonna win your – and you’re gonna vote for me! That's slave owner 101, and people are like, keep going! Because the middle of the country is like, we feel the same way.
