During a recent appearance on the podcast Roland Martin Unfiltered, the always unhinged Elie Mystal who serves as the justice correspondent for the left-wing rag The Nation, melted down when previewing upcoming decisions the United States Supreme Court is due to hand down. The case that got Mystal especially triggered is a case on the constitutionality of certain sections of the Voting Rights Act.
When giving his prediction on how he thinks the high court will rule, Mystal slimed Chief Justice John Roberts as a racist who doesn't want black people to vote. "For all the people for all the media people especially. All the generally kind of mainstream media people especially who tend to act like Roberts is some kind of moderate good guy influence on the Supreme Court," Mystal wailed.
"Make no mistake: John Roberts has been an enemy of black people voting for his entire legal career. Indeed his first job after he finished clerking was to work for the Reagan White House arguing against an expansion to the Voting Rights Act that was eventually pushed through," he falsely and maliciously claimed.
Mystal then illustrated how in the past, the Voting Rights Act was always easily reauthorized or expanded. The suggestion here is that now Republicans are against African Americans and other minorities voting when that couldn't be further from the truth:
"The Voting Rights Act was confirmed under George W. Bush by a voice vote. These are bedrock American principles that even Republicans agree with, but not John Roberts. John Roberts has been our enemy on voting rights for his entire life and he’s going to continue to be our enemy this month," Mystal cried.
As NewsBusters' Associate Editor Nick Fondacaro pointed out on Twitter in response to Mystal's vile commentary: "James Hodgkinson, the man who tried to assassinate congressional Republicans at a baseball practice in 2017, was an avid MSNBC watcher. This is the kind of hate he was exposed to."
