The New York Times sure knows how to pick them, don't they? Trump-Derangement Syndrome sufferer and writer for the national newspaper Michelle Goldberg was on MSNBC’s MTP Daily August 17 to apparently promote the completely original idea that Trump is a dictator. Not only that, but he clearly wants to see people round up and murdered. Obviously!
Goldberg made the hysterical point during a panel with fill-in host Katy Tur, who even had to rein back in the radical liberal journalist.
Appearing on the panel as well was national political reporter for Real Clear Politics Caitlin Huey-Burns and MSNBC contributor John Podhoretz.
They were discussing President Trump revoking security clearances of former Obama officials and threatening to take away the security clearance of Justice Department official Bruce Ohr. Podhoretz began by slamming the move as just another part of Trump’s strategy of “grotesque intimidation,” which Tur agreed with, saying it “sounds Nixon-ian.” Goldberg added to the shaming, claiming it was obviously “obstruction of justice,” that Trump was engaging in.
“He's doing all of these things that if we had a functional political system would invite a response from congress hearings if not impeachment, because we don’t he's allowed to get away with this completely autocratic behavior,” she ranted. Later on in the show, Tur brought the panel on again to discuss Kellyanne Conway questioning if John Brennan was “obsessed” with Trump.
Huey-Burns defended all the talk surrounding Trump because he was the “most vocal” president in recent history and was also the “leader of the free world.” That didn’t sit well with Goldberg who interrupted.
“Oh, no, he's not. He’s not the leader of the free world. But sorry!” she snarked. “[German Chancellor] Angela Merkel is the leader of the free world,” Goldberg added.
“He's the most important person in the world in politics now,” Huey-Burns elaborated.
Host Katy Tur stepped in then to highlight Goldberg’s outburst. “Your argument that’s he’s not the leader of the free world because he's not standing up for democracy, he’s not standing up for humanitarian…?” she tried to get Goldberg to clarify.
“Right. He's a sort of junior player in a block of authoritarian countries,” Goldberg gushed.
Tur just continued coming to Goldberg’s aide, trying to make her ridiculous point sound more valid.
“And people like in the European Union are no longer looking at him as a leader any longer,” Tur continued. Goldberg ate that up and went off the rails, saying Trump was akin to our enemies in World War II, saying the current “axis” of power included Trump, Vladimir Putin and Puerto Rico’s Rodrigo Duterte.
“Of course not, right, he's part of a block that includes Vladimir Putin, Duterte, he's kind of part of kind of an axis power of--” she started before Podhoretz tried to one up her hyperbolic point.
“It's worse than that in a certain way. Not that that's not the worst thing you could have said because it's about the worst thing you could say about him,” he gushed before Tur stepped in to try to rein back in the conversation.
“He's not rounding people up and murdering them without any, you know, due process,” she pressed.
But Goldberg raved, “He certainly would really like to!”
Tur gently scolded her guest saying, “I don't think you can say that definitively.”
