Guess we shouldn't be surprised, coming from ex-Republican Steve Schmidt, who now calls the Democrats "the only party left in America that stands for what is right and decent and remains fidelitous to our Republic, objective truth, the rule of law and our Allies."
Appearing this afternoon on MSNBC's Deadline: White House program hosted by Nicolle Wallace -- his sidekick on the McCain presidential campaign -- Steve Schmidt broke out the tired liberal claim that Republicans somehow resemble the villains of 'The Handmaid's Tale.' The show has been described as portraying "a dystopian future . . . wherein a totalitarian society subjects fertile women, called 'Handmaids,' into child-bearing servitude."
Schmidt, forecasting the absolute worst for Republicans at tomorrow's Senate Judiciary committee hearing, said:
"It's a political disaster, starting with 83-year old Chuck Grassley, Orrin Hatch. They literally, put two stars on their sleeves, it looks like the cast from 'The Handmaid's Tale.' It looks like the Commanders meeting."
I've never watched the show, but from what I understand is a still of the Commanders meeting, it looks like Grassley and Hatch have about 30-40 years on those guys. But that didn't stop Schmidt from working in his smear.
Note: Schmidt said that Grassley's 83. He's actually a spry 85.
Note segundo: Later, on Hardball, Chris Matthews continued the mocking of the older Republicans on the Judiciary committee:
"The guys that are living in assisted living tomorrow. They're going to be sitting there with a woman they call a female assistant, like somebody who's coming into the house to look out for Uncle Orrin, that he's having a hard time getting up and down the stairs."
