Joy Reid Warns: Don't You Dare Approach Pelosi Unless She 'Calls for You'

December 7th, 2019 5:45 PM

Queen Nancy the First? On her Saturday morning MSNBC show, Joy Reid set out on a loud-and-proud feminist jag as she sought to pump up Nancy Pelosi. But the effort backfired. She claimed that impeachment was designed to prevent President Trump from becoming a "king." But she wound up painting an unflattering portrait of Pelosi as a disdainful member of royalty who misuses her power to abuse her lessers.

As Reid portrayed her, Pelosi is someone who should only be approached by the peons of the media when she deigns to call on them. And woe betide those, like James Rosen, who dare flout that rule! Pelosi will "gather" them up and "bewig" them — whatever that means.

And don't you dare whine, like the Republicans supposedly do. That will also bring down the wrath of Pelosi, who is likely to put you in "time-out."

Any Catholic school alums out there who can explain what Reid meant when speaking of getting "bewigged, Catholic-school alumnus style?"

Reid also attacked Sinclair as an illegitimate news outlet and collection of 193 local news TV stations, thus rendering the journalists who make far less than Reid, no more than partisan hacks in her eyes:

Now, you might want to — you might remember him from one of the many sexual harassment scandals at Fox before he switched conservative outlets and Sinclair, of course, is the right-wing outlet that forces its anchors to deliver identical Republican talking points with your traffic and weather together all around American while hiding behind the call letters of TV news stations. And Rosen's talking point, that came Sinclair style out of the GOP.

Since it was an attack on Sinclair, don't hold your breath for CNN's Oliver Darcy, Brian Stelter, or The Washington Post's Margaret Sullivan to hit back.

Note: Reid seemed to suffer a Rick Perry moment. She said that there were "three questions" that people should ask themselves before daring approach Pelosi. But unless I'm missing something, she mentioned only two such rules: did Pelosi, or did Pelosi not, "call for you?"

Ironically, just yesterday Morning Joe was virtually beatifying Pelosi as a person of deep faith who was filling a "moral void" in the country. Today, Reid portrayed Pelosi as a sharp-edged feminist warrior, taking down anyone who dared challenge her!

JOY REID: The most powerful opponent Donald Trump has in this country, and the biggest threat to his future is a woman. And the Speaker has made it clear that she is fully in charge....But as if on queue, the right felt the need to be heard.

JAMES ROSEN: Do you hate the President, Madam Speaker? Because Representative Collins —

HOUSE SPEAKER NANCY PEOLOSI: I don't hate anybody.

ROSEN: — Representative Collins —

PELOSI: I was raised in a Catholic house.

ROSEN: — the reason I ask —

PELOSI: We don't hate anybody. Not anybody in the world. [SCREEN WIPE] This is about the Constitution of the United States and the facts that leads to the President's violation of his oath of office. And as a Catholic, I resent your using the word hate in a sentence that addresses me. I don't hate anyone.

REID: Okay. Well, apparently that man forgot the rule. If you're going to come for Speaker Pelosi, you might want to ask yourself three questions first. Question one, did she call for you? If the answer is yes, please, do come forward. If the answer is no, perhaps not such a good idea, unless you're prepared to be fully gathered and the man who you saw there getting bewigged, Catholic-school alumnus style, by the Speaker happened to be Sinclair Broadcasting's James Rosen. Now, you might want to — yo might remember him from one of the many sexual harassment scandals at Fox before he switched conservative outlets and Sinclair, of course, is the right wing outlet that forces its anchors to deliver identical Republican talking points with your traffic and weather together all around American while hiding behind the call letters of TV news stations. And Rosen's talking point, that came Sinclair style out of the GOP.

REID: So Republicans, with no defense for Donald Trump for attempting to use your tax dollars to bribe a foreign country into announcing investigations that would give Sinclar, and Fox News, OAN [One America News Network], and the rest of the Trump universe, juicy content to use against Joe Biden if he happens to be the Democratic nominee, and that would get Russia and Trump off the hook for cheating in 2016, have stooped to whining: the Democrats are only impeaching Trump because they're mean! All but inviting the Speaker to put them in time-out.
