Actor Will Smith recently said something that would have been considered offensive and dare I say racist when he made comments about Trump and Trump supporters.
Being a narrow-minded Hollywood hypocrite, Smith apparently thinks Trump and Trump supporters are white Islamophobic racists when he had a few things to say about how the Republican presidential nominee will help “cleanse” “embarrassing” things from American discourse.
“As painful as it is to hear Donald Trump talk and as embarrassing as it is as an American to hear him talk, I think it’s good,” Smith said before adding that “[w]e get to know who people are and now we get to cleanse it out of our country.”
Smith was in Dubai promoting his role in the DC Comics movie Suicide Squad when he remarked that simply being the United Arab Emirates city was a way to chide what he considers American “Islamophobia" with none other than the Fox News Channel being "the artibiter" of this perceived sentiment.
“In terms of Islamophobia in America, for me that’s why it’s important to show up…The Middle East can’t allow Fox News to be the arbiter of the imagery, you know… So cinema is a huge way to be able to deliver the truth of the soul of a place to a global audience.”
This isn’t the first time Smith has opened his mouth about Trump. Earlier this month, he told Australian media that a “separatist, non-inclusive, racist, xenophobic wave” was sweeping the globe and pulling society apart.
In an appearance on NBC’s The Tonight Show last month, Smith struck a similar tone to his Dubai comments: “When everything gets out, it’s a good thing…It just sucks bad when the truth is out. But I think everybody can see it now. And I think it’s just a little darkness before the cleansing that we’ll have as we move forward.”
I guess Smith thinks that is ok because he feels he’s going against the grain of such “American Islamophobia” by showing support for the Islamic country. Perhaps Smith should call for a “cleansing” in the UAE for those who stone women to death and where homosexuality is forbidden.
This is just another example of Hollywood hypocrisy at its finest.
