Here’s a shocker – the cast of a popular television show is endorsing a Democrat for president. Just as they came out to endorse and support President Obama back in 2008 and 2012, Hollywood has lent their liberal voices and money to the Clinton campaign. It doesn't matter if they work for Fox, owned by the conservative Murdoch family.
Take the cast of the black-oriented hip-hop Fox drama Empire. Its creator Lee Daniels filmed a new millennial-targeted Hillary Clinton ad, urging young Americans to get out and vote. Daniels was a speaker at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia and calls the election the “most important election of our lifetime.” That's funny because they said that about both of Obama’s elections.
Speaking into the camera is actor Bryshere Gray, who says, “There’s only one person in this race who said Black Lives Matter,” while actress Taraji P. Henson asks, “What will I tell my son? What will you tell your daughter…What will we tell the future generation?... If Trump gets into to office, it will only get worse.”
The release of the ad comes as the hit show has tackled topical politics in its most recent season. A third-season episode of Empire addresses police violence and includes themes related to the Black Lives Matter movement.
“So many women and men died for us to have the right to vote,” Daniels said in the ad. “Every time we sit out, we dishonor their sacrifices.” I wonder if Mr. Daniels would say the same thing to all those who sit out while the National Anthem is sung.
