Months ago, Obama Girl seductively sang about her love for the junior senator from Illinois. Now, a satirical video, loaded with sexual content, depicts young McCain supporters as inept, clumsy, and not worthy of dating.
Making matters worse, ABCNews.com not only reviewed the video, but also embedded it at its website despite the soundtrack including a vulgarity beginning with the letter "F".
I kid you not.
What follows are highlights of this article (sexual content below the fold, emphasis added throughout, h/t NBer Jeff Williams, picture courtesy ABCNews.com):
"Blue Balled" -- an edgy, video short distributed on YouTube and other Web sites this week -- has a simple message: If you vote Democrat, you are intellectual, hip and savvy. If you vote Republican, you are an untouchable -- bumbling, square and uptight.
Did we forget to mention that McCain's adoring fan knocked over his beer at the bar, offered his erstwhile one-night-stand a Johnny Walker Red and lined up his shoes at the bedroom door before jumping into the sack?
Nice imagery, dontcha think? Making matters worse, the piece was produced by TruthThroughAction.org, which:
...brings independent filmmakers together to create edgy online film and video content to support the Democratic Party, its issues and candidates.
By developing, funding, producing and distributing these high-quality projects, we’re working to ensure they win large, viral Internet audiences.
ABCNews.com continued:
Like the "Obama Girl" video, which spread virally last year, "Blue Balled" is intended to rally the indie community and young political activists to support the Democrats in November. The group plans to produce more than a dozen films of all genres, each with an "edge and a clever hook."
For those interested, here's the plot line:
A stunning 20-something woman hooks up with a seemingly innocent guy at a rowdy singles bar. Hot foreplay starts on the cab ride home and progresses into the bedroom.
That is until, while searching for a condom in the bedside table, she sees a photo signed "Thanks for your support!" from Republican candidate John McCain.
Horrified, she bolts, dropping her bag and spilling a campaign button on the sidewalk: "I only sleep with Democrats." The camera quickly cuts to a cool, bespectacled man with a donkey pin on his lapel. The couple's eyes lovingly lock.
Is this really the future of political activism? Assuming it is, will media fall over itself to report this video much as it did Obama Girl a year ago, which, by the way, has had almost 9 million views at YouTube?
Heaven help us.
In case your curiosity is getting the best of you, the video is available here.
As a post facto aside, what does it say about ABC News that it would post such a sexually charged video at its website?
After all, if you listen to the lyrics of the song playing in the background as the man enters his bedroom, you'll hear the following (h/t Seton Motley): "Patience is a virtue, but sex is so f*****g good."
Is this appropriate language in a video posted at the website of one of America's leading television news outlets? Isn't the entire content unacceptable inasmuch as it is promoting casual sex between strangers? At a news website?
In the end, it's one thing for ABCNews.com to review this piece. But, to embed it at its website is a tad unseemly.
