A few hours after PBS's Tavis Smiley predicted on MSNBC that the upcoming presidential race will be the most racist in American history, Ed Schultz said the Republican Party stands for racism.
The host of the "Ed Show" also proclaimed, "I think Donald Trump is a racist" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
ED SCHULTZ: You mean to tell me that [Trump’s] questioning the academic prowess of one of the smartest presidents we’ve ever had? Mr. Trump, when you start getting your advice from all of the special, special Republican advisers that we’ve seen step to the plate in the past instead of Jerome Corsi. Dude, you could do better than that.
This is what the Republican Party stands for, though: racism. I think Donald Trump is a racist.
One of the smartest presidents we've ever had? Based upon what criteria?
Obama unlike most presidential candidates of late refused to release his college transcripts. So we don't know what grades he got.
His career as a junior senator from Illinois showed no particular political acumen whatsoever as he authored absolutely no significant pieces of legislation in that position.
In his current role, he's exploded the federal deficit and the national debt like no other White House resident since World War II while doubling the price of a gallon of gas and increasing unemployment. All of this has led 70 percent of the citizenry to believe the country is heading in the wrong direction.
As such, exactly what has he done in national office to demonstrate superior intellect?
Quite the contrary, based upon his job performance - which currently less than 46 percent of the nation approves of - Obama has been a failure his first 27 months in office.
As for challenging a president's intelligence, for eight years Americans were told George W. Bush was an idiot. Was that racist? If it wasn't, why is questioning the intellect of the current White House resident?
More to the point, how do Comcast and General Electric, the owners of MSNBC, feel about one of their commentators calling a large percentage of Americans racist?
Is this really a good business plan?
