Ron Reagan Disses His Mother: Michelle Obama Gave 'Best Speech By a First Lady I've Ever Seen'

Just how in the tank for President Obama is MSNBC contributor Ronald Reagan?

On Friday's Hardball, he actually said Michelle Obama gave the "best speech by a first lady I have ever seen, and, you know, all due respect to my own mother" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

In a gushing wrap-up of the just-ended Democratic National Convention, host Chris Matthews played clips from Mrs. Obama's speech Tuesday.

When they were finished, Reagan said, “Best speech by a first lady I have ever seen, and, you know, all due respect to my own mother, and I haven’t reviewed all of Eleanor Roosevelt’s remarks that she ever gave. But best speech by a first lady I think I have ever seen.”

Honestly, how biased must a person be to say on national television that someone was better than his own mother?

Wouldn't most people have said "excluding my mom, of course" out of mere respect?

Not Ron, apparently.

For his part, Matthews of course agreed with his guest, but later commented, “Neither of these first ladies nor the candidate for first lady can sing like your mom can. They can’t sing ‘Second Hand Rose’ like she did.”

“Well, that’s true,” Reagan said.

Some consolation prize, Ron. You're a heck of a son.
