As Election Day nears, the on air personalities at MSNBC are dropping all pretense of impartiality and journalistic integrity.
On Thursday's Hardball, at the conclusion of a lengthy segment about the upcoming vice presidential debate, host Chris Matthews actually said, "Biden better win" (video follows with commentary):
So one of MSNBC's most visible hosts, with less than a month to go before Election Day, is now comfortable saying hours before a debate who he's rooting for.
Is this the state of journalism in America today?
Are there no impartial refs?
Exactly how can MSNBC be considered a "news network" if its on air employees are overtly cheering for outcomes rather than reporting and commenting on them?
Tonight's outburst is far from the only time that Chris Matthews has openly cheered for his preferred Democrats. The night of the first presidential debate during which President Obama handily lost to challenger Mitt Romney, an angry Chris Matthews denounced Obama for his performance and strongly urged the president to tune in to MSNBC to learn a thing or two about how to attack Republicans.
Where was Obama tonight?! He should watch, well not just Hardball, Rachel [Maddow], he should watch you, he should watch the Reverend Al [Sharpton], he should watch Lawrence [O'Donnell]. He would learn something about this debate.
There's a hot debate going on in this country and you know where it's being held? Here on this network is where we're having this debate. We have our knives out, we go after the people on the facts, what was he doing tonight?! He went in there disarmed, he was like, 'oh wait, an hour and a half, I think I can get through this thing and I don't even look at this guy.' [...]
Obama should watch MSNBC, my last point. He will learn something every night on this show and all these shows. This stuff we're watching, it's like first grade for most of us. We know all this stuff.
Chris Matthews and everyone associated with this farce of a "news network" should be ashamed of the way they're behaving and how they have assisted the demise of television journalism so much so that a continually decreasing percentage of Americans trust the veracity of the information being disseminated to them.
When the public totally stops patronizing outlets like MSNBC and folks like Matthews find themselves unemployed, they'll have nobody but themselves to blame.
