The tumult over the death of Margaret Thatcher on Monday has continued online, where Geri Halliwell, an original member of the Spice Girls singing group, apologized to the many people who were angered when “Ginger Spice” called the former British Prime Minister “the original Spice Girl.”
“I'm sorry if I offended u...x,” @GeriHalliwell posted regarding her earlier Twitter message that stated: “Thinking of our 1st lady of girl power ... a green grocer's daughter who taught me any thing is possible.”
Halliwell deleted the tweet.
This isn't the first time Halliwell praised Thatcher. During the 1997 general election, Halliwell declared:
I saw a lot of what Mrs Thatcher did. She was definitely the original Spice Girl rising from the green grocer's daughter to Prime Minister.
Ginger Spice also claimed that her own background was deeply rooted in support for the Conservative Party. In addition, Thatcher was the pioneer of “Girl Power” and the spiritual sixth member of the Spice Girls.
Meanwhile, as quoted by Twitchy, @thebegrudger snarled: “[W]hat a nob you are Halliwell, she was a bitch of the highest order, a stroke was too good for her.”
Along those lines, @JoshWoogs unleashed even more venom when she said that Thatcher was “a lying bitch you mean. I hope she rots, the horrible little slag. I'm just gutted she didn't die more painfully.”
“Yes, you too can hope for dementia followed by death,” growled @The_Verth to Halliwell.
“Margaret Thatcher did not possess an ounce of 'girl power,'” @LisaCChilds declared. “Legendary and divisive she was, feminist she was not.”
In addition, @brendandurgan told Halliwell to “shut your mouth thatcher was a whore of a woman.”
@turrhall cited Thatcher's career as “proof that women can give as little of a sh*t about human dignity as men. Awe inspiring.”
“Yes, it appears her education cuts helped you become an intellectually challenged illiterate cunt,” @raineyforbes noted angrily. “GIRL POWER!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!”
As NewsBusters previously reported, the hateful online reaction to the passing of the 87-year-old baroness forced the British Daily Telegraph newspaper to shut down all comment sections on articles related to Thatcher's death.
Needless to say, Halliwell isn't the first celebrity to be “tarred and feathered” by self-proclaimed mavens of tolerance for straying from the left-wing party line.
Last October, African-American actress Stacey Dash found out the hard way what happens to celebrities who think for themselves.
Dash's troubles began when she posted the following message on her Twitter page, accompanied by a photo of herself with an American flag:
Vote for Romney. The only choice for your future. @mittromney @teamromney #mittromney #VOTE #voteromney
It didn't take long for supporters of Barack Obama to respond with racial epithets while attacking her choice for president, including a charge that Dash is “an indoor slave.”
On the following day, the actress said during an interview with CNN's Piers Morgan that she chose Romney "not by the color of his skin, but the content of his character.”
Returning to the past 24 hours, not all posters have been furious about the message from Ginger Spice. @choosingfreedom wrote:
I'll be interested to see what you take away from today. There's a huge lesson about leftism vs freedom here. Be well.
The truth is that Halliwell did nothing that required an apology. It's a sad time when a hateful mob can shut down a newspaper's message boards or badger someone who has committed the ultimate sin: disagreeing with liberals in public.
