With less than a year until election day, the liberal late night shows are offering daily support to the various Democratic presidential candidates. During an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday, Mandy Moore -- a liberal actress who is “friendly” with South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg -- enthusiastically endorsed the candidate as someone who is “overwhelmingly qualified” and “brilliant.”
Moore cheered: “I’m so impressed with him. I think he’s overwhelmingly qualified” for the presidency -- even though she didn’t explain why she believes that about the mayor of a small city in the Midwest. Instead, she claimed: “I think he’s brilliant, and I love his message of unity. I think it’s something that we don’t have enough of in the world right now,” she said to applause and cheers from the audience.
Host Jimmy Kimmel asked Moore about her relationship with the 2020 candidate and how they met.
Moore responded:
I am a massive fan and supporter of Pete Buttigieg. He’s my boy. I went to a campaign event before he actually announced, when he was still sort of doing his exploratory committee earlier this year. Met him and I happened to meet Chasten, his husband.
The actress replied that “Chasten and I sort of slid into each other’s DMs [Direct Messages] and became friends, and anytime he [Buttigieg] comes to Los Angeles, we try to make time for each other.” She then described the candidate's husband as “wonderful, and I, like, Ubered him around in my car, and I’m like his chaperon when he comes to town.”
Of course, Kimmel also asked: “Are you like super interested in the election and all this stuff that’s going on?”
“Very much, yes,” Moore responded. “We all have [an] incredible responsibility coming up in the next year, so it’s, yeah, it’s something I think about all the time.” Not surprisingly, the ABC host brought the Republican incumbent into the discourse while noting: “[S]ometimes when I sit down to dinner, I just wonder how many minutes will elapse before someone says the word ‘Trump.’”
“Yeah,” the guest answered before noting: “[I]t’s tricky these days.” Kimmel then grumbled: “And it’s nice when it doesn’t happen for a while, but that never doesn’t happen. It always seems to happen.” Returning to the mayor, the host asked: “Do you think he has a reasonable, any chance of winning?” “I do,” she stated. “I think if you look at the Iowa polls, things just keep swinging in the right direction.”
As NewsBusters previously reported, this isn’t the first time the actress has mixed liberal politics with entertainment. In December of 2017, she and other celebrities took part in a Christmas fund-raising event to benefit Planned Parenthood -- even though that organization is America’s largest provider of abortion.
