In recent months, liberal media outlets have enjoyed Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace criticizing President Trump and his team over impeachment. But they won't like his latest take on the Fox News podcast Fox News Rundown, that that Rep. Eric Swalwell's Wednesday comment on CNN that President Trump could be impeached a second time is "just insane."
"When you're hearing people like Eric Swalwell say, 'Well, maybe we're going to impeach again.' [It's] Insane, just insane," Wallace told host Chris Foster. "You know, both sides need to focus on actually helping people deal with the problems ... that they face in this country. Whether it's the economy or jobs or education or health care or foreign policy, whatever. They need to be focusing on that and not, you know, staying in this kind of politics of personal destruction."
"And I think both sides are guilty of it and falling into the trap again," Wallace added.
This would seem to avoid the obvious point that journalists have wallowed in the "politics of personal destruction" since Donald Trump appeared on the political scene, as many Trump allies have been convicted of crimes in the Russian-collusion probe that dominated the media's attention.
Swalwell told CNN host Jake Tapper the Democrats might consider another impeachment over the molehill of a harsh sentencing recommendation against Roger Stone -- a recommendation the judge in the case can simply ignore. As usual, Swalwell compared the president to an organized-crime boss [HT video from Julio Rosas]:
"We’re not going to take our options off the table. We don’t wake up in the morning wanting to impeach him, you know," Swalwell said. "We want to work with him on prescription drugs, background checks, and infrastructure, but we are not going to let him, you know, just torch this democracy because he thinks that he’s been let off once and we’re not going to do something about it."
Wallace wasn't a fan of Trump's tweeting about the Stone contoversy. "I think weighing in on the sentencing -- it wasn't a guideline -- it was a recommendation by prosecutors. And then the recommendation gets changed and now he's attacking the judge. I think that's all really misguided on his part."
Wallace also expressed delight at the idea of a Trump vs. Bloomberg general election campaign: "It would be great to cover it. There's no question about it," Wallace said. "It would be the best show in town for the final six months of 2020."
