On Saturday's edition of MSNBC's The Weekend, Georgetown law professor Michele Goodwin somehow suggests that post-Dobbs law limiting abortion are the modern-day equivalent of slavery and Jim Crow laws, including those restricting the ability of African-Americans to play chess and checkers.

The Friday evening newscasts of the big three networks of ABC, NBC, and CBS all hyped Vice President Kamala Harris using a discredited ProPublica story about Georgia’s pro-life law killing women. In the case of ABC and CBS, the hyping would continue on the Saturday morning shows.

It is a fact that under the governorship of Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, Minnesota removed a requirement that babies that survived abortions be given life-saving care. However, PolitiFact still slapped a “false” label on the claim on Wednesday.

The debate tone was set with the first question. Debate co-moderator David Muir, ABC’s news managing editor, asked Vice President Kamala Harris: “I want to begin tonight with the issue voters repeatedly say is their No. 1 issue ... When it comes to the economy, do you believe Americans are better off than they were four years ago?”

CNN NewsNight anchor Abby Phillip interviewed liberal Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson on Friday and repeatedly tried to get her to attack her colleagues, first as sexists and second for undermining public confidence in the Court by overturning “precedent,” by which she just meant Roe v. Wade.

Sitting in on Friday for host and NewsBusters Executive Editor Tim Graham, Associate Editor Nick Fondacaro and I dove into an absurd Los Angeles Times profile celebrating ABC’s debate co-moderator Linsey Davis for, along with co-moderator David Muir, interjecting for so-called fact-checks of Donald Trump. 

The debate debacle hosted by ABC underscored why the conservative half of America is hostile to “fact checkers.” Object to them, and the Left decrees it’s because you’re hostile to facts. But what conservatives actually oppose is leftist argumentation that’s poorly disguised as nonpartisan and devoid of opinion.

New York Times’ media reporter Michael Grynbaum made Wednesday’s paper with the smugly confident post-presidential debate “Media Memo,” “ABC’s Matter-of-Fact Moderators Built Factual Guardrails Around Trump.” He wrote: "Using calm and authoritative tones, Mr. Muir and Ms. Davis offered a model for real-time fact-checking that has been absent from many recent presidential debates."

During Tuesday night’s debate with Kamala Harris, Donald Trump called out Tim Walz’s extremely radical and, frankly, diabolical abortion stance as governor of Minnesota, but for PBS’s Christiane Amanpour, the fact that Trump even brought it up made him “very, very extreme,” while her panel labeled it "extraordinarily stupid."

PBS’s coverage of Tuesday night’s Trump-Harris debate included live fact-checking from its partner PolitiFact, which has racked up a liberally slanted record. But when Harris falsely claimed Trump had promised a “bloodbath,” no one at PBS or PolitiFact corrected her. PBS has made the same fake claim on numerous occasions. GOP Rep. Michael Waltz joined CNN News Central host Brianna Keilar on Wednesday to recap the previous night’s presidential debate, and during the abortion part of the discussion, he was forced to fact-check someone on CNN who was attempting to fact-check him for the second time in the campaign.
