Film Critic: ‘American Sniper’ a ‘Republican Platform Movie’
January 3rd, 2015 3:02 PM
Edelstein gripes in New York magazine that “the native population are portrayed as invaders of our sacred space instead of vice versa,” and that “the people [Chris] Kyle shoots always represent a ‘savage, despicable evil,’ and the physical and mental cost to other Americans just comes with the territory.”
Former NY Times Reporter Christopher Hedges: ISIS Is 'The New Israel'
January 3rd, 2015 10:48 AM
Christopher Hedges has been gone from the New York Times for almost ten years. He has since admitted to being a socialist, been exposed as a serial plagiarist in work he has done since leaving the Times in 2005, and authored "the first issue of the Occupied Wall Street Journal, a newspaper associated with the Occupy Wall Street protests in Zuccotti Park."
Hedges is the subject of this post…
AP's Lederman Pretends Afghan War Is Over, Gets Gooey Over Obamas
December 30th, 2014 4:03 PM
At the Associated Press on Christmas Day, reporter Josh Lederman carried out what might as well be his official administration stenographer duties with special aplomb.
Three paragraphs will illustrate how Lederman glossed over realities relating to the 13-year war in Afghanistan and went all gooey over Barack and Michelle Obama's vacation:
AP's David Crary Perpetuates Michael Brown 'Hands Up' Myth
December 23rd, 2014 10:43 AM
Establishment press reporting has all too often been about perpetuating a narrative, even long after it has been proven false, than conveying facts and truth. Anyone arguing that 2014 has been one of the worst years ever for this growing trend won't get an argument here.
An Associated Press poll about the top stories of the year got responses from 85 editors at subscribing AP outlets. Although…
Blogger: Cheney, Other ‘Elites’ Help Make GOP the ‘Torture Party’
December 17th, 2014 11:57 AM
“What the average person is seeing right now,” declares the American Prospect’s Paul Waldman, “is an entire party mobilizing to defend the use of torture, whether they will call it by that name or not. And that looks to be having an effect on public opinion.”
WashPost Art Critic Rails Against 'Gauzy View of American Goodness'
December 13th, 2014 6:21 PM
In his "Critic's Notebook" on the front of Thursday's Style section, Washington Post art critic Philip Kennicott descended into another rant suggesting the United States is barely more moral than Islamic State beheaders. Americans are not a good people; we are a horrible people, ruthless and then cluelessly patriotic.
The headline was "Senate report's real question: Who are we? Gauzy view of…
Pity Party at AP: Obama Still Handicapped by Bush 43's 'Legacy'
December 10th, 2014 6:42 PM
Nearly six years into Barack Obama's presidency, it's still George W. Bush's fault.
Early Wednesday morning, Julie Pace at the Associated Press proved yet again why it is more than appropriate to characterize the wire service where she works as the Administration's Press. The headline at Pace's story tells us that poor President Barack Obama still has to confront the "Bush legacy," and is still…
LAT Guest Blogger: Use Thanksgiving to Debate ‘Crazy Right-Wing Uncle'
November 28th, 2014 10:51 AM
Sometimes, one has to remember that op-ed writers don't always get to pick their headlines, though I would hope that they're allowed to register their objections. So it's not clear that Los Angeles Times guest blogger Joel Silberman is responsible for the headline at his Monday blog post about how, or even whether, to deal with relatives who disagree with you politically on Thanksgiving.
But…
NYT Sanitizes, Spins Report on Hagel's Sacking for Tues. Print Editon
November 25th, 2014 1:09 PM
The New York Times continued its annoying, Winston Smith-like habit of rewriting history in virtually real time yesterday.
Helene Cooper's original Monday afternoon report on Chuck Hagel's sacking as Secretary of Defense is no longer available at the Times. However, since I anticipated that the paper would conduct a comprehensive cleanup yesterday when I posted on the paper's original coverage,…

October 13th, 2014 12:20 PM
Marc Lamont Hill, liberal CNN contributor and host of HuffPost Live, appeared on Sunday’s State of the Union with Candy Crowley and did his best to smear former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta for daring to criticize President Obama on foreign policy. Appearing alongside Neera Tanden, Newt Gingrich and S.E. Cupp, Hill proclaimed that Panetta’s criticism of Obama was “the most disgusting example…
