ThinkProgress LGBT Editor, Zach Ford, blames “conservative Christians” for the Orlando shooting, which tragically killed or injured over 100 people this past weekend. According to Ford, conservative Christians caused the shooting in two ways: by their own “violence” to the LGBT community and by their anti-Islamic sentiment, a “spark” for the attack.

Senior Justice Writer at the New York Daily News, Shaun King, discovered the cure for mass shootings: ban all white men. In response to the mass murder of 50 people this weekend by Omar Mateen, King tweeted: “We would cut mass shootings down by 75% if our nation banned all white men from this country. While the national media is quick to condemn conservative politicians who oppose stricter gun laws for offering their “thoughts and prayers” to those many victims of the tragic Orlando shooting, the media has said little about the Muslim scholar, Sheikh Farrokh Sekaleshfar, who was preaching the death penalty for gays in Orlando this past April and, earlier, in 2013.

As if media behavior concerning a motive of Sunday’s Orlando terror attack hadn’t already sunk towards the bottom, NBC’s Dateline vastly accelerated the spin not toward radical Islamists but gun control with correspondent Josh Mankiewicz lecturing the American people that Islam almost never related to mass shootings but “our long history” of people dying are instead.

Each of the network evening newscasts devoted the duration of their air time to the terrorist attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando and, unfortunately, the networks immediately rushed to the issue of gun control and did only the bare minimum to highlight Omar Mateen’s radical Islamic beliefs. 

Closing out a special edition NBC Nightly News on Sunday night, weekday anchor Lester Holt and correspondent Harry Smith irresponsibly framed the Orlando terror attack on a gay nightclub as being an issue of gun control and mass shootings instead of one concerning the ideology of radical Islamists and anyone who wavers from it.

Imam Muhammad Musri, the president and senior imam of the Islamic Society of Central Florida, made a statement to reporters Sunday morning at 10:32 a.m. Eastern Time.
