As if media behavior concerning a motive of Sunday’s Orlando terror attack hadn’t already sunk towards the bottom, NBC’s Dateline vastly accelerated the spin not toward radical Islamists but gun control with correspondent Josh Mankiewicz lecturing the American people that Islam almost never related to mass shootings but “our long history” of people dying are instead.

While he apologized roughly six minutes later, MSNBC breaking news anchor and disgraced ex-NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams jokingly asked former Republican Senator Mel Martinez of Florida during an interview about the Orlando terror attack if he could find his party in the 2016 election “with a flashlight.”

Each of the network evening newscasts devoted the duration of their air time to the terrorist attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando and, unfortunately, the networks immediately rushed to the issue of gun control and did only the bare minimum to highlight Omar Mateen’s radical Islamic beliefs. 

Closing out a special edition NBC Nightly News on Sunday night, weekday anchor Lester Holt and correspondent Harry Smith irresponsibly framed the Orlando terror attack on a gay nightclub as being an issue of gun control and mass shootings instead of one concerning the ideology of radical Islamists and anyone who wavers from it.

Imam Muhammad Musri, the president and senior imam of the Islamic Society of Central Florida, made a statement to reporters Sunday morning at 10:32 a.m. Eastern Time. Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit reports that "This was the first press conference held by Orlando officials after the massacre," and that "No Christian or Jewish leaders were invited to speak to reporters."
