La entrevista entre José Díaz-Balart de Telemundo y Jorge Ramos de Univisión- de cadenas noticiosas competidoras- marcó un hito para los medios de habla hispana en Estados Unidos. Pero el ambiente amistoso no impidió que Díaz-Balart le planteara una pregunta de suma importancia a Ramos.

Érase una vez cuando Telemundo buscó llenar un vacío en el mercado al tomar un enfoque dirigido a las noticias, pero tal parece que la cadena está dejando ese enfoque a un lado para dedicarse a la cobertura viciada, especialmente cuando de inmigración se trata.

Once upon a time, Telemundo sought to answer a need in the marketplace by taking a "Just the News" approach, to critical and ratings acclaim. But it appears that the network is eschewing that approach in favor of more one-sided coverage, especially when it comes to immigration.  

The tendency to exaggerate how ‘bad’ things are has long plagued the practice of journalism. This common failing of the profession, however, was further compounded by Telemundo, when at the top of a national newscast coinciding with the first year anniversary of the Trump presidency the sister network to NBC made several highly irresponsible – and patently false – characterizations.

Se sabe que un mal perenne del periodismo es la tendencia a exagerar la nota, sobre todo al presentar cuán “mal” están las cosas. En el caso de Telemundo, esta inclinación también incluye caracterizaciones altamente cuestionables e irresponsables, como sucedió durante su cobertura del primero año de la presidencia de Donald Trump.

Over the weekend, several police officers were shot and injured in Pennsylvania in an apparent terrorist attack by a man from Egypt. CBS has so far managed to stand out by completely ignoring the story as ABC, NBC, CNN, FNC and MSNBC have all to some extent given attention to the subject.

El perdón del presidente Trump al ex sheriff del condado de Maricopa Joe Arpaio es ahora el tema de un aviso publicitario de Telemundo, en el cual la cadena hermana en español de NBC trata con desprecio abierto tanto al presidente Trump como al veterano policía de 85 años de edad.  

Una vez más, Telemundo confla la inmigración legal con la ilegal, y se presta para tachar de "antiinmigrante" a cualquiera que se atreva a defender el cumplimiento de las leyes migratorias de este país. Esta vez, la cadena lo hizo con Bill O'Reilly a su salida de la cadena Fox News.

Once again Telemundo conflates legal immigration with illegal immigration, and levels the seemingly all-purpose 'anti-immigrant' smear at anyone who dares advocate for the enforcement of federal immigration laws. This time, the network did so by kicking Bill O'Reilly on his way out of Fox News.
