None of the Big Three networks' evening newscasts on Friday covered the shooting of an American citizen in eastern Saudi Arabia earlier in the day. A Friday item by Reuters reported that "a vehicle carrying two U.S. citizens came under fire in the Eastern Province district of al-Ahsa, one of the main centers of Saudi Arabia's minority Shi'ites."

Hardball host Chris Matthews's disdain for Sen. Ted Cruz is so palpable he can't resist making a snide comment when noting a rare instance in which the Texas Republican praised the first lady, and that in the context of standing up for women's rights. 

"Obama agenda, meet the wrecking ball," the Daily Beast's Patricia Murphy groused as she opened her January 7 piece, "The Republican War on Kale."
