Fact-checking fact-checkers

Wherever the Left is challenged, you can count on the so-called "independent fact-checkers" to fan out and attack...followed by Twitter promoting what "fact-checkers say." This week, it was the Canadian trucker convoy arriving in Ottawa to protest the COVID vaccine mandate imposed by socialist prime minister Justin Trudeau.

Liberal "fact check" websites are starting to hate any mockery of the dark-blue District of Columbia requiring an ID for restaurants (and many other public establishments), but not at the polls. First it was USA Today, and now it's PolitiFact. Rep. Greg Murphy (R-N.C.) drew a "Mostly False" rating for tweeting "The Dems demand a photo ID to get a cheeseburger but not one to vote. The…

In Washington, DC today, you need proof of vaccine AND your ID for admission to most indoor venues. But Bob Daley, an Edgewater, Maryland Facebook user with 427 followers, was flagged by "fact checker" Daniel Funke of USA Today for "missing context" with a meme that read "When you need to show papers to eat in a restaurant, but not to vote, something is wrong."

On January 24, PolitiFact wrote a “fact check” throwing a “Mostly False” rating at Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears for an TV interview with Fox News on Martin Luther King Day claiming the school system in Loudoun County, Virginia spent $300,000 on critical race theory. When faced with the facts, PolitiFact wouldn't budget. She was still "Mostly False." No, they were. 

 PolitiFact begs for donations by proclaiming "Our only agenda is to publish the truth so you can be an informed participant in democracy." But this "independent fact-checker" routinely betrays a tilt by coming out more aggressively to “correct” attacks on Democrats. In Biden's first year, MRC analysts found Biden was fact-checked 40 times, while Biden critics were checked on 230 occasions.…

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus is nothing if not ambitious. First, they came for a Miami AM radio station whose content they didn’t like. Now, they are trying to haul Big Tech CEOs before Congress in order to whip them into fighting Spanish-language “disinformation” online and on social media.

In his newsletter on Monday night, former CNN producer Steve Krakauer criticized the obvious tilt of fact-checkers. For example, "CNN's Daniel Dale, who made a career out of fact-checking President Trump, hasn't turned his sights onto President Biden in more than six weeks."

One of the most frustrating things about “fact checkers” is how they leap on conservative rhetoric against Democrats as “false” or “missing context,” but let Democrats say the wildest, nastiest things about conservatives, and they get a pass. For example, PolitiFact pounced on Sen. David Perdue of Georgia as a “Pants On Fire” liar for calling his opponent Jon Ossoff a “socialist.” But Biden…

Vice President Kamala Harris began her speech marking the one-year anniversary of the January 6 riot by comparing it to Pearl Harbor and 9/11. I joked the "independent fact-checkers are taking the day off." They didn't. Snopes declared conservative radio host Todd Starnes "Mostly False," not Kamala Harris. 

In Sunday's Washington Post, "fact checker" Glenn Kessler took up Joe and Jill Biden's tax avoidance during the Trump years by channeling funds through an "S corporation." There were no "Pinocchios" awarded. It simply seemed like Kessler wanted to establish that the Bidens were totally okay to use tax loopholes that President Obama tried to close.

Over and over again, we find "independent fact checkers" come rushing to President Biden's defense when he says something that sounds wacky. Spencer Brown at Townhall complained Friday that PolitiFact closely followed Team Biden in crying "missing context" on Biden saying they would make sure Americans are "paying their fair share for gas." What does that mean? 

On November 15, Rep. Cori Bush (radical D-Mo.) tweeted that “When we marched in Ferguson, white supremacists would hide behind a hill near where Michael Brown Jr. was murdered and shoot at us.” Where were the “Fact Checkers”? FactCheck.Org? No. The Washington Post? No. PolitiFact ignored it, although they posted two “False” ratings on Kevin McCarthy on November 19.

Washington Post “Fact Checker” Glenn Kessler had to be dragged, sort of kicking and screaming, to give Terry McAuliffe “4 Pinocchios” for dramatically exaggerating COVID among children in Virginia. Kessler let McAuliffe publicists talk him out of a check three times before he felt like he was suckered. 

Andrew Stiles at the Washington Free Beacon noticed that CNN "fact checker" Daniel Dale hasn't tweeted anything since September 17, when he tweeted "I'm gone for a while goodbye everybody." Stiles joked this was a metaphor for his work post-Trump:
