Oprah’s OWN Network premiered the latest season of its mega-church drama Greenleaf, which centers around Calvary World Ministries and the Greenleaf family who runs it, on Tuesday, August 15. The show picked back up where it left off…with a newly-divorced Christian father struggling with his gay desires.

OWN’s Greenleaf, a drama that centers around mega-church Calvary World Ministries and the family who runs it (the Greenleafs), has featured the story of husband Kevin Saterlee (Tye White) and his struggle with gay desires since last season.

Oprah’s show Greenleaf, a drama featuring a Christian “megachurch” and the fallible humans behind it, has been all over the map when it comes to representing Christian values accurately. One minute, the show is depicting gay conversion therapy programs in a positive light. The next, it’s sending the message that Christians who don’t support gay marriage are “broken.”

This week Oprah's mega-church drama Greenleaf featured not one, but two gay storylines, both regarding discipline: one was a matter of self-discipline and the other dealt with discipline within church leadership. In Wednesday’s episode “Strange Bedfellows,” a rift forms over the decision to fire the church’s gay choir director Carlton Cruise (Parnell Damone Marcano).
