Andrew Garfield: We Are in the 'Dark' Because Guns, Trump

Yet another out-of-touch, featherweight, Hollywood sycophant is offering his opinion on US politics.

Actor Andrew Garfield (star of Hacksaw Ridge and The Amazing Spider Man) has been promoting himself for his role in Broadway’s gay extravaganza, a remake of the 1980s far-left play Angels in America. In a recent interview with Variety, Andrew was given free rein to ramble through his opinions of American society. He dished out the typical Hollywood liberal talking points, you know, how the world is bad because of Donald Trump and now more so because of guns.

As far as hypocrisy and gross misunderstandings go, Garfield’s musings in this short clip were a work of art. It sounded like the echo chamber he's inhabited  has been amazingly dense, as these assertions might make even rabid liberals blush.

He started off by quoting Millennium Approaches,(act 1 of Angels in America) in which a homeless woman claims that “in the next century, we will all be insane.” Garfield remarked how it was prophetic of our current time. He said, “Now we are in that next century and look at what happened in Florida. Look at who we’ve put into the most important office in the world. It’s so evident that we’re in the darkest of the dark.”

Enumerating the insanities, Garfield of course brought up the recent accusations of President Trump’s sexual impropriety, and the “horrific response from a lot of people, I guess in the pocket of the NRA, or even just conservatives generally.”

He maligned conservatives as people who are “so, so protective over this idea of what the second amendment is, that they are willing to sacrifice children at the altar of their freedom to buy a submachine gun.” Still, I bet he loves Planned Parenthood.

“These are all the things that make this play, unfortunately, incredibly important right now.” he added. Yes, a play steeped in homosexuality that explores the lives of those dealing with AIDS should be an inspiration and lesson relevant to all Americans.

Either way, none of this is surprising for the young actor, who, more recently, has tried to gain big points for his his social justice scorecard. Some of his attempts at pandering to the SJW narrative have earned him derision from feminists and LGBTQ people as well.

Yet, despite the few missteps along the way, it’s quite evident that Andrew’s SJW quest remains ambitious.
