Every other day, we’re bombarded with news about a celebrity lecturing us to vote out Donald Trump. At this point, it’s practically a relief to see an actor or singer not ordering us to vote for Biden come November. Unfortunately, as Chris Pratt proves, that’s all you need to be canceled nowadays. Or worse, remaining quiet gets you labeled as a MAGA supporter.
On October 18, the Biden campaign announced an online fundraiser titled “Voters Assemble!” featuring the directors and cast of the comic-book movie Avengers: Endgame. The press release read:
With the fate of our democracy at stake, Kamala Harris has called on America's favorite superheroes to host what could be the most ambitious crossover event in grassroots fundraiser history. Hosted by the Russo Brothers, the event will feature Don Cheadle, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, and Zoe Saldana -- you don't want to miss this one!
In light of this announcement, many Twitter users noticed names notably absent from the fundraiser, namely that of Chris Pratt. Even though other actors, including one of the film’s most notable stars Robert Downey Jr., were not included, this was apparently enough for people to label Pratt a “white supremacist” and a “MAGA dummy.”
Keep in mind, Chris Pratt has never openly endorsed Biden or Trump, though records show he previously donated to President Barack Obama in 2012 and to Representative Tulsi Gabbard’s 2020 presidential run. Considering that and the fact that his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger-Pratt has come out in clear support for Biden, it’s a huge leap to suggest he’s a full-blown Trump supporter. The Twitter harpies might as well punish him for not clapping loud enough at rallies.
Jezebel writer Joan Summers set out to read the tea leaves on Pratt’s political leanings and her findings on the Republican side of the ledger are hilarious. One 2012 tweet she found “emphasizes Pratt’s political flexibility with ‘EITHER WAY,’ coupled with the extremely Republican energy of ‘respect’ and ‘allegiance.’” Later, she wrote, “There is a variety of data points that read Republican, like his insistence that both parties are equally just, his emphasis on unity, and his deluded belief that blue-collar white men haven’t had their moment in the Hollywood sun.” However, ultimately, she decided Pratt’s political pronouncements were too vague to come to a conclusion either way, which she found “much more frightening,” presumably in same the vein as how it’s not enough to not be racist, you must be obnoxiously anti-racist.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Chris Pratt has come under fire from leftists. Over the past few years, the actor has been slammed for wearing a Gadsden flag T-shirt as well as attending a church which has been labelled an “organization that hates a certain group of people [LGBTQ].” Most recently, he even mocked the celebrity endorsed PSAs via an Instagram post telling people to vote…for his movie Onward at the People’s Choice Awards.
In other words, he appears to behave like a normal person keeping his opinions to himself, putting faith in God, and having a good laugh now and then. And we all know how much the left hates that.
I don’t know who Chris Pratt will be voting for come November 3, and, for what it’s worth, I hope it stays that way.
