Canadian born singer Kaya Jones, a former member of The Pussycat Dolls recently appeared on the Speak Out podcast with Christine Yeargin, discussing her past abortions and the regret and remorse she feels about them now. The pair also talked about the dangers of the entertainment industry and it's influence on society.
Jones mentioned that she had her first abortion when she was a teenager and her birth control failed her. She visited the clinic alone to terminate her pregnancy and now admits that society encourages us to view abortion as a form of contraception. When she became pregnant again at the point in her life where she was a part of the girl group the Pussycat Dolls, she told Yeargin that she “was told to get rid of it.”
Jones said women can become desensitized to abortion. “When you’ve had one, you think you can keep having them,” she confessed. “After the first one, you don’t think you’ve done anything wrong. It’s been normalized and what is a line until you’ve crossed it … once you cross that line, it’s a very slippery slope to continue to cross those lines.” Hence why at age thirty, when Jones became pregnant after she was raped, she had another abortion.
During that third time, Jones claimed that she “wanted to keep the baby” but ultimately ended up terminating the pregnancy over stress and what she called “complications.”
Jones said she felt like she was being controlled by the industry. Higher ups would tell her who her friends were, where she could live, what she could eat, etc. She recounted an instance where she saw the faces of two young children at one of her concerts and realized that she was their role model/inspiration. Instant regret overcame her and it was as if in that moment she was experiencing an abortion in "real time."
She said that instant got her to realize that her outward body was confident but her life was a lie and she was just a facade. “There was nothing beautiful about me. I was tainted. I was destructive. I was destroyed. I was completely enchained and bonded to the devil, or the enemy, or the realm of death if you will, where I was living in my worst self.”
She said the industry is what caused her to have low self-esteem and confidence which led to promiscuity and her eventual abortion at that time that she will “live with for the rest of” her life.
That moment was her “aha” moment that got her to eventually leave show biz. Now, as evidenced by her interview with Yeargin, her perspective and understanding of both Hollywood and abortion in general has dramatically changed.
“We’re all mothers of dead children if you’ve gone through an abortion,” she said, emphasizing that with her platform she doesn’t want to demonize mothers who’ve aborted their children but rather educate them and help them understand that God has forgiven them.
“You will regret it your whole life,” she said, including when she was raped. “Even if I become a mother tomorrow, and I’m happily married and all is well, I’m still going to regret the three children I did not have.”
Jones concluded by explaining how so many of God’s plans in her life worked out for good and that Christians should not take Biblical principles out of context to bend to the will of man. Her last piece of advice was to “be fearless and be bold,” and to listen to what the Lord says.
The episode was great and hopefully will encourage more people with such large platforms to speak out about what they believe in and fight for the right to life.
