A preview of an upcoming Univision series highlighting the Hispanic community in America features anchor María Elena Salinas pushing questions that drip with derision against a major policy proposal she evidently does not like.
Asking about the proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, Salinas could not conceal her disdain in her line of questioning when interviewing Rep. Steve Montenegro, a Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives.
MARIA ELENA SALINAS, UNIVISION ANCHOR: Do you consider that building a wall on that border, there will be no more drug trafficking in this country, there will be no more human trafficking in this country?
Answering Salinas, Rep. Montenegro said border control is necessary in an era where drug and human trafficking are real concerns, along with a rising rate of criminal activity where drug cartels have the power to overturn democracy and threaten the stability of the Mexican state.
The exchange appeared in a preview of the new Univision series “LatiNación”, highlighting the Hispanic community in America, including immigration to the United States, and that claims to cover the issue of immigration “from every angle”. The first episode of the series is set to air this coming Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 8:00 pm ET.
If this is the angle Salinas will be pursuing, can we truly trust this series to accurately cover these issues from every angle as claimed? One can’t pledge, as an award-winning journalist, to cover a topic from every angle, especially if the angle always pushed by the network and oneself is obtuse at best.

6:58:01 PM – 6:58:42 PM ESTMARIA ELENA SALINAS, UNIVISION ANCHOR: Sanctions and increased border control are the main Republican proposals.
HON. STEVE MONTENEGRO, ARIZONA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES: When we’re talking about protecting the borders, we’re talking of crime, of terrorism, but also of the traffic. We can’t ignore human trafficking, nor child trafficking.
MARIA ELENA SALINAS, UNIVISION ANCHOR: Do you consider that building a wall on that border, there will be no more drug trafficking in this country, there will be no more human trafficking in this country?
HON. STEVE MONTENEGRO, ARIZONA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES: For the best possible protection it deserves, and if it is good to build a wall to protect the people, is important. Because we are talking about terrorism.
