Trump and Kanye Maligned as ‘Nut Cases’ on Univision

October 15th, 2018 11:35 AM

Univision morning show host Carlos Calderón labeled both Kanye West and President Trump “nut cases” and “crazy people” during two segments of Despierta América devoted to discussing the meeting between the two men in the Oval Office last week.

In addition to disparaging the mental health of the two billionaires, Calderón also incorrectly characterized West as having said he supported Hillary Clinton during the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

CARLOS CALDERON, HOST, UNIVISION: There was an unusual, so to speak, meeting between President Donald Trump, and there you are watching, and the rapper Kanye West who supports him in the White House. The funny thing was that he began his speech saying he supported Hillary Clinton, well that's the way these two nut cases are. But anyway, the artist really stole the show.

CARLOS CALDERON, HOST, UNIVISION: The big question is, what are they hiding from us to distract us with that, you know? There must be something going on while those crazy people were there, there must have been some wonderful thing in the Congress.

Fellow Univision host Raúl González also maligned the meeting as “dantean”, which was the consensus of the network’s morning show hosts. The show’s hosts appear to determined to not only consistently insult President Trump and West, but also insult and alienate Trump supporters among the network’s viewership as well.

Below is the complete transcript of the above-referenced segments, as aired during the October 12, 2018 edition of Despierta América, on Univision.

RAÚL GONZÁLEZ, HOST, UNIVISION: He even said bad words, wowww.

FRANCISCA LACHAPEL, HOST, UNIVISION: He said bad words and besides that the cap that makes him feel like a superhero that reminds him of Spiderman, such an odd thing, it resembled a comedy sketch.

RAÚL GONZÁLEZ: Surreal, dantean.

FRANCISCA LACHAPEL: It totally is.
